First, allow me to get this out of the way.
This game is the epitome of DIFFICULT.
But dont get me wrong. Just because its difficult, doesnt mean its a bad game.
Its actually one of the best, if not the best, freeware games I have ever played.
The story details The Kid, who, with the help of a gun given to him by Grandfather The Guy, seeks to become The Guy by defeating current The Guy. Other than the beginning and end of the game, you never really hear much about the story anyway.
This game, created in Multimedia Fusion 2 by one Mike Kayin OReilly, is designed in an 8-bit style. The game was made as a tribute to 8-bit gaming of the 80s and 90s, and includes many references to old school gaming.
The controls are very fluent in this game. You have the option of using either the keyboard or a joy pad. One complaint I have about using the joy pad is that, while you can switch the buttons and controls on the keyboard, you cant do this on the joy pad. And when you die, you have to restart at your last save point, which requires you to press the r button. Believe me, youll be pressing that button a lot. Personally, I have only gotten to the third boss in the game, and have already racked up over 300 deaths. A lot of the time, this is due to unexpected traps and a strange double-jump glitch, causing the second jump to fail, and what usually ends in you plummeting to your death.
Going back to the difficulty, you have several difficulty settings. However, these dont make the game harder or easier; they just affect how many save points you encounter in-game. Medium, while giving your character the punishment of wearing a bow in his hair, has the most save points. Hard has less, about one per every other screen. In Impossible mode, there are NO save points. You die; you go back to the beginning. Now, what makes the game so difficult? Well, the game is a standard platforming adventure game. Doesnt sound too difficult, right? WRONG.
Everywhere you turn, things are trying to kill you. Lightning, spikes (Get used to seeing those), zombies, pitfalls, traps, old school gaming characters (Such as Ken from the Street Fighter Series, Shy Guys from Super Mario Bros., etc), and giant Delicious Fruits, which are usually mistaken for apples, though the creator states that Theyre more like giant cherries
Even after the first screens of the game, you can expect these Death Cherries to fall in any direction.
To add to this, there are six bosses you must defeat before being able to encounter and fight "The Guy." These range from a Giant Mike Tyson, to Dracula, to strange fights like Mecha Birdo, Bowser, Dr. Wily, and even a dragon.
Now, all these problems wouldnt be so bad, but theres a catch. You die in one hit. Nearly everything can kill you in only a single hit. This is what causes the game to be notorious among gamers as one of the most difficult games in existence.
I think Ive gone on long enough, lets look at the stats.
Graphics 10/10 I love the 8-bit style
Game play 8/10 Its fun, but it gets aggravating at times
Originality 10/10 This game is absolutely stunning when it comes to originality, and its nice to see a game like this in a sea of terrible freeware.
Music 9/10 The game takes music from old school games, and adds it in, such as using music from Mario Paint Composer, and especially the MegaMan series.
Voice Acting 3/10 Its funny the first time you hear The Kid talk, but it just gets annoying after that.
Controls 9/10 The double-jump feature can be a little tricky at times, but other than that, I have no complaints.
Average Score 8/10 This game is outstandingly fun to play, but if you have a short fuse, I suggest you dont go near it.

If you expect the unexpected, doesn't that make the unexpected, the expected?

I'm recently search and play good freeware games. Others videogames as you should play and reviews are:
Iji- One of my favorites Freeware games. Is a plataform/shooter games with a lot of details in the gameplay. The main character can upgrade her skill with experience, fused weapons, hack doors, locked box with items and even the weapons of the enemy, find secret items, etc. The plot is generic but filled with a lot of text. In fact, the dialogues change if you kill a fews enemies or try extermine all the foes. The music is excelent and original to it game.
Graphic as 16 bits make-up, with the style of "Another World".

5 Days a Stranger- A Adventure Graphic games, with Terror theme. Old Graphic style (As the first Lucas Art adventures) and traditional gameplay. Excelent plot, is the first of 4 titles saga.

Cave Story- A metroidvania game, simple but great gameplay, and great plot and characters. 8 bits style, again.
